DOJ Sues More States for Refusal to Turn Over Voter Rolls

The attorney general is authorized by federal laws to verify voter rolls and list maintenance.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has sued Arizona and Connecticut for refusing to comply with its request for the states’ full voter registration lists. Attorney General Pam Bondi filed the suits due to provisions under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), to ensure that states have appropriate voter registration and voter list maintenance programs.

Attorney General Bondi also noted that the Civil Rights Act of 1960 (CRA) permits the attorney general to request federal election papers related to voting “for inspection, reproduction, and copying.” As the midterm elections approach, 40 states and the District of Columbia have been asked to produce their voter registration rolls to ensure free and fair elections.

Attorney General Bondi said, “The Department of Justice will continue filing proactive election integrity litigation until states comply with basic election safeguards.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Attorney General Bondi to have discernment as she seeks to acquire voter lists under federal law.
  • For DOJ officials as they engage state leaders to ensure the integrity of their voter registration lists.
